When it rains it pours, but perspective is everything when enduring a personal storm.
Everyone experiences downpours in life. There’s no way around it. BUT there are ways through it. Most people want to shy away from their downpours, but we all know that rain brings about newness. It cleanses and restores.
Sure the mud isn’t fun as an adult, but kids love stomping around in it on a rainy day. Let’s take a page from their book, and embrace the rain showers.
Below are 3 tips you can use to press through your stormy days.
3 Tips to Press Through Your Personal Storm
FIND THE LESSON
One of the best things you can do, during a rough time in your life is to search for the lesson in it. If I’ve learned nothing else from life, I have learned that if you don’t get the lesson, life repeats itself until you do. Life is helpful that way. Whenever we focus on the personal storm rather than the lesson it is here to teach us, we begin a cycle of struggle. If you are aware, however, you can avoid that cycle, and move forward.
Try to figure out why you are experiencing your circumstance. What things can you take away from this situation and make better so that things will most likely pan out differently in the future? One of the best ways to find the lesson is to write it all down. Get it out of your head and onto the paper. This allows you to see the problem laid out in front of you, and it could help in solving it.
TAKE A STEP BACK
Sometimes, we’re too close to a situation to think clearly and to make the best decisions. When you are going through a personal storm and you feel as if there is no solution to your problem, take a step back. Breathe. Go do something that you enjoy, and return to view your storm in a more objective way.
Usually, this makes it easier for one to see and decide on a solution or a next step. In some cases, it may be wise to talk to someone you trust. Another set of eyes and ears might be just what you need to move forward in a positive manner.
BE STILL AND KNOW…
Psalms 46:10 — “Be still and know that I am God”
I love this verse, because it let’s us know that everything is always alright. We work hard, and do all that we can to fix problems and to stay on top of every situation. Sometimes, we can do all that we know to do during a personal storm, and not see any signs of positive results. In those moments, the most wise thing to do is to trust (and expect) that things will work out just the way they were supposed to.
Stressing over things that we can’t change is a waste of energy and time. If you’ve exhausted all possibilities, let it go. What will happen will happen, whether you’re chilling or stressing. Wouldn’t you like to experience the one that feels better? I know I would.
