How I Lost 40 Pounds

Recently, I posted a photo showing my weight loss over the last year, and in a matter of hours, I had hundreds of likes and comments, and several messages in my inbox from women asking me how I lost 40 pounds. I mean, they were really looking for my “secret” in getting results.

Honestly, I was both flattered and frustrated. Most people don’t realize the things that they do on a regular are the things that cause them to get “unwanted” results time and time again. At the risk of being perceived as a joke, I also posted a status that read “When you get tired of something, and I mean truly tired, you WILL do something about it. Until then, one can only assume that you love your situation.”

How I Lost 40 Pounds

I meant that in love, regardless of how it is taken. The short answer to the question, “How did you lose 40 lbs?” is simple…I made a decision to lose the weight. I decided what I wanted, and I started moving toward that goal. The long answer is this. I had tried the diets and failed. I restricted calories. I bought all healthy foods, and ordered pizza after a couple of days. The point is, I knew what didn’t work for me.

I had lost weight before, but I hadn’t changed my lifestyle. So, that was the goal this time. It took me about a year to lose the weight, because I refused to workout. I wanted to get the food part down, first. I had heard and read in several places that diet is 80% of weight loss, and that exercise was only 20%. I ¬†removed several things from my diet, and reintroduced them one by one, after a few weeks. I learned that my body didn’t like cow’s milk, bananas, and bread. I cut out fast foods, and started cooking at home more. I started using coconut oil for everything, and within a couple of months, I saw the scale change for the first time.

I kept up with my eating habits, because I had made changes that I enjoyed and could sustain long term. Seeing the numbers go down on the scale gave me added motivation to keep it up too! I exercised a few times, but it’s not my thing, at least not right now. Lately, though, I’ve been tricked into working out, because my husband bought me a bike, as an early anniversary gift, and I’ve been riding every day.

If you are trying to lose weight, I encourage you to stop trying, make a decision, and just lose the weight. When you want something bad enough, you will make a way to get it. I’ve done that in so many other areas of my life, and I finally applied it to my body too. Change your mind and it will change your life!
