What are your goals for 2017? People all over the world are giving advice around this time of the year to help people to prepare for 2017. Honestly, it is the best time to try to help others reach their goals, since most people are on their #NewYearNewMe kick. If you are one of those people, good. I would encourage you to keep that attitude for the entire year, every day. You’re going to need it, if you really are going to change your life.
Below, I have created a list of 5 things that you should do before entering into 2017. You definitely don’t want to go into a new year with the same mentality, and doing the same things that haven’t been producing the results that you want. Read and reread the list. Take it to heart, and step into your new self and your new life.
5 Things You Should Do to Prepare for 2017
1. Evaluate what worked in 2016 and what didn’t
I am pretty sure you have seen all of the memes circulating throughout the internet of people claiming that their 2016 has been going horribly. If you were caught up in that phenomenon, you really know what I’m talking about. But let’s not dwell on the past. 2016 is coming to a close, and it’s time for you to prepare for a new year.
The first thing that you should do to prepare for 2017, is to take a moment to reflect on your year. Compile a list of things that worked, and plan to improve upon them. Then, compile a list of things that didn’t work, and plan to eliminate them. For example, if you spent more money that you earned, you should make a plan to cut back on spending, or to earn more money to suit your lifestyle.
2. Stop doing and allowing things that no longer serve you
It is one thing to know what no longer serves you, but it is a completely different thing to do something about it. Take the list that you made after reading number 1 in this list, and actually stop doing and allowing the things that no longer serve you. If you were placed in uncomfortable situations this year, you should refuse to allow yourself to be put in those positions in 2017.
If you want to lose weight, but you’ve been sitting around eating, and talking about how you need to do something, make a change. Recognize that your talking about doing something doesn’t serve you. It doesn’t put you on a path to achieving your goal. Instead, take steps toward reaching your goals. Cut out all of the nonsense, and start putting actions behind your words. You may have said things before, because the people you’ve been talking to would never know whether or not you were telling the truth. Guess what…you know. Don’t feel bad behind closed doors. Put in the work, behind closed doors, and show the world your results!
3. Make a commitment to yourself to do the work to be better
You should always be learning something new. You should always be growing mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. You should always be transforming into a newer, better version of yourself. We all were meant to evolve, and if you are sitting stagnant, you aren’t on your job. Commit to doing the work.
Read. Eat healthier. Take care of yourself. We have all heard that we only have one shot at this life, and that we only get one body and one set of teeth, but a lot of us have mistreated our bodies, and some have even rotted our teeth. Prove that you care about yourself and your family and friends, by doing your very best to take great care of yourself.
From experience, I know that there aren’t many things more frustrating than watching someone that I love make poor decisions and continue bad habits. Those people only bring about negative situations in their lives, and they cause their friends and family members to worry about them, and sometimes to have to rescue or take care of them.
4. Get your mind right
In order to successfully do any of the above things, you first have to prepare your mind. You need mental strength to endure the necessary changes that you will encounter, as you make your way toward a better you. If you are a negative thinking person, you will give up at the first sign of adversity. You have to change the way that you look at things, before you can truly make a difference in your life.

5. Find an accountability partner
Most things in life are easier to accomplish, when you have someone supporting you along the way. There are several people working toward similar goals, and it would be wise if you linked up with one of them. Find someone who is like-minded, and who is working toward his/her own goals. If you can’t find someone, let me know and I may be able to pair you up with someone.
Let’s have a great year! Start now to prepare for 2017. Don’t wait!
