You remember Eeyore?…That dry, depressed, Disney donkey cartoon character. Well, I have had my share of run-ins with Eeyores, especially in my adult life, and I gotta tell ya, it is so unattractive. Men and women alike are walking through life with their heads down, complaining about any and everything around them. That is no way to live. If you see the negative in every situation, the problem is your perspective.

I want to help you to look on the brighter side of life, and start creating happier moments for yourself. If you are someone who feels like you just can’t catch a break, or that life is only unfair to you, you are mistaken. I don’t have to know your unique situation to understand where you’re coming from. As a person who has endured many hardships and setbacks in my life, I can say that your circumstances don’t matter in the grand scheme of things.

Check out this video of some of Eeyore’s dreary quotes.

I hope that video made you laugh, or at least smile at how ridiculous Eeyore sounds in his negativity. How in the world can you hate on a good morning? Right? Anyhow, here are some ways to lift your head and to start feeling better about yourself and your life.

How to Avoid Being An Eeyore

Keep A Gratitude Journal.

For every negative thought that pops into your head, there is an equally positive one that could replace it. Keep a gratitude journal, and write down everything that goes well during your day. Write down all of the things that you are grateful to have, be, and do. It may be a challenge, at first, to shift your thinking, but after a while your notebook should start to fill up quicker. Pretty soon, you should be focusing more on the positive things that occur in your life, rather than on the unimportant things.

Change Your Environment.

Sometimes the people you hang around are negative, and that energy can rub off on you. Either dismiss those people from your life, or limit your time with them. Your first priority is yourself. When you catch a plane anywhere, the safety procedures always tell you to place your oxygen mask on first, and then you can assist someone else. Same concept here. Take care of you, FIRST. Maybe you are uninspired by your work or by the city in which you live. Guess what! You can change those things too. Get proactive and make the necessary changes to better your life.

Understand Your Thoughts Vs. Received Thoughts.

Just go with me for a minute. How many times have you had a thought, and snapped out of it, like Whoa! That’s crazy! Why would I even think such a thing? Some thoughts don’t belong to you. Thoughts come to us all day every day, but we have the power to either accept or reject them. If negative thoughts dominate your mind, it is only because you are allowing them to do so. Take control and start screening the thoughts that pop into your head. Think intentionally. If a thought enters that you don’t agree with or that you don’t like, don’t allow it to occupy anymore time in your brain. DISMISS IT….PERIOD.

I really hope these tips help you to snap out of that Eeyore mentality and to start creating a more positive existence for yourself. Don’t be a donkey!
