If you could have anything you want, what would it be? Most people, when asked that question, give an answer that is equal to some variation of more money. While it is not at all bad to have this desire, it does show that there are several people who don’t really understand how money works. If you have been wanting more money, keep reading. I’m going to share a few tips on how you can get more money this year.
Don’t worry. I’m not about to tell you to go thrifting, or to sell anything. I just want to share some things that I have learned over the last year. Below, I have listed the 3 things that you absolutely must do, in order to get more money this year.
Before you dive in…you should know that I use a few scriptures from the bible to explain my points. If anyone has ever convinced you that money and/or wealthy people are evil, I hope this article changes your mind about that. Enjoy!
How to Get More Money
Give
You may have heard people say that you get what you give, and that is very true. The bible teaches us several things about giving. One lesson, in particular, comes from Galatians 6:7, which reads “for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.” According to this scripture, whatever you give is what you will also get back. So, if you give money, you will reap money.
I understand, if you are thinking that you are lacking funds and that you are in need of money to begin with, but this is worth trying. Money is energy, and it is supposed to flow. Money is referred to as being “in circulation”. When you receive money and you hold onto it, you stop the circulation/flow. I’m not suggesting that you give away your rent money. I am simply saying that it wouldn’t hurt to help someone else out every once in a while.
I was lacking money, early last year, and I kept asking God for more money. Every time I asked, it was placed on my heart that I should be giving. Because I felt that I didn’t have much to give, I asked God to bless me to have to give to others. I started noticing that even though I don’t have a habit of carrying cash around, whenever I encountered a person who needed my help, I had cash to bless him/her with.
Giving became second nature to me. I was happy about it, because God had answered my prayer. I also started to have more to give, which caused me to receive more as well. Give out of the goodness of your heart, and watch your life change.
Other scriptures to consider:
Proverbs 19:17
“He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the Lord; and that which he hath given will he pay him again.”
2 Corinthians 9:7
“Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.”
Ask
Have you ever heard the phrase A closed mouth doesn’t get fed? Sometimes, all you have to do is ask for something to begin the process of receiving. The bible teaches a few lessons on asking for what we want. In Deuteronomy 8:18, the bible says, “But thou shalt remember the Lord thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth…”
If money is what you want, you should really understand that it is yours. God has already given us the power to “get wealth”. Since you know this now, you should feel more confident in going after it. If you are anything like me, when I read this, you are wondering “how Sway???” (LOL) No worries. This is normal. I started to try to make something happen on my own, when I realized, I didn’t know what the heck I was doing…but I remembered a scripture that says, “ If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.”
This scripture sparked something in me. I immediately began to pray, asking God to give me wisdom, and to guide me through the process of getting wealth. Since then, I have gained more clients and new opportunities to make money. Before then, I was struggling to make any money at all. Don’t worry, if you aren’t an entrepreneur. By gaining this understanding, and by asking God for what you want, something will change. Getting wealth might look different for you. For example, you might get a promotion on your job. You may get a new and better job that pays more. You may even find that you have some entrepreneurial aspirations. You might make an investment that pays off. Who knows how God will work in your life.
Other scriptures to consider:
James 4:2-3
“Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.”
Work
My last piece of advice is that you have to put in the work. You cannot expect to get a promotion at work, if you come in late, do just enough to get by, and can’t wait to get out of there every day. People who move up do so by going above and beyond their job description. If you are an entrepreneur, you should know that you can’t make any money by calling yourself a boss and watching Netflix all day.
The bible also teaches us a couple of lessons about putting in work. For example, James 2:26 reads, “For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.” God can’t bless our work, if we aren’t working. We should be taking steps toward what we want, while asking and trusting God to guide us and to work through us.
Take the time to consult with God about what you desire for yourself. Then, ask him to guide you through the process. Finally, go hard for what you want, knowing completely that God is with you.

Ecclesiastes 9:10
“Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might…”
