It’s Wisdom Wednesday!
In this episode we’re talking about how to be satisfied with what you have. God has blessed you with so much already; you just have to choose to see it.
Let’s dive right into Proverbs 14:30, which reads:
“A sound heart is the life of the flesh: but envy the rottenness of the bones.”
There is really no way to sugar coat this one, and quite frankly, I wouldn’t want to try. When we are grateful for the things we have already been blessed with, God can add to us (give us life). However, when we’re looking around, focusing on other people and what they have, we tend to fall into negative thinking, and become envious of them. The bible tells us that leads to rottenness. Who wants that??? I know I don’t.
I must admit though, I used to envy other people. I’d watch their lives play out on social media, wondering why I hadn’t been blessed in those specific ways.
I had completely lost sight of what God had for me. In fact, I wasn’t even paying attention to the things God was trying to give and teach me. I wanted the money, the relationship, the home, the friendships that other people had. I wanted that other woman’s body, so much so that I resulted to negative self-talk, wearing body shapers (that weren’t fooling nobody …walking around looking like a can of busted biscuits…but I digress.) I treated myself poorly more and more, focusing on what other people had that I thought I didn’t have.
What I hadn’t realized was that I hadn’t put in the work to get my own results. Had I been focused on my own blessings and goals, I could have had a body that I appreciated. I could have had a bank account that I was happy with. I could have been building my own loving relationship and healthy friendships. To learn how to speak what you want into existence, click here.
The Vocab Lesson
I quickly shared the definition of the word sound, which is as follows:
sound
in good condition: solid and strong
I also shared the definition of the word envy, which means:
envy
painful or resentful awareness of an advantage enjoyed by another joined with a desire to possess the same advantage
As you can see, if you have a sound heart, you won’t have room for envy, and vice versa. They are essentially opposites, and can’t live in the same place at the same time. Which will you choose? Especially knowing that God has something special and only for you. Why would you want what someone else has, when you could have your own tailor-made blessing?
I learned my lesson. Then, I grew into a body that I feel comfortable in and absolutely love to dress. Finally, I was able to build a business and bank account that I am happy with. And I have been building a loving relationship of my own. Thank you, Lord. I’m glad I started focusing on the things that I already had to be grateful for, and allowed God to add to me. Now, I invite you to do the same. If you need help getting your mind “write” and writing your vision, sign up below to become a vision writer.
