It’s Wisdom Wednesday!
In this episode, we’re talking about why it’s important to hold your peace for the sake of preserving your knowledge, wisdom, and understanding for those who actually seek it. Our scripture is coming out of Proverbs 23:9, which reads:
“Speak not in the ears of a fool: for he will despise the wisdom of thy words.”
This scripture is important for believers to pay close attention to, because we may have been taught wrong, when it comes to the topic of witnessing.
The Problem with Choosing Not to Hold Your Peace
The problem that most Christians face, when attempting to share wisdom and knowledge with others, is that most people just don’t want to hear it. This is why the bible advises us to hold our peace. It tells us to refrain from giving what the Spirit has given us, and for good reason.
In another scripture, we learn that the Word of God can only be understood by those who seek knowledge and understanding. We were given the gift to understand the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but not everyone was given that same gift. For this reason, it’s important that we guard our gifts, until we are prompted to share.
Matthew 13:10-13
“10 And the disciples came, and said unto him, Why speakest thou unto them in parables?
11 He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.
12 For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that he hath.
13 Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand.”
The Solution to The Problem
It’s important to understand why you should hold your peace. This isn’t to silence you or to stop you from sharing God’s goodness. Instead, it’s to show you the best way to go about sharing.
Witnessing the proper way is much more rewarding. I created a part two to this lesson, so you can get a better understanding of what it really means to witness. Any other way will result in your wasting your breath instead of speaking life into other people.
Enjoy this episode and jump right into part two, as it is a bit lengthier than normal. In part two, I go into depth about the topic of witnessing, and I share scriptures to support my thoughts. I hope you are blessed by the words I share.
